Night of Museums

Night of Museums

The European Night of Museums is a nationwide initiative, during which cultural institutions such as art galleries and museums open their doors to visitors in the evening or at night. It’s a one in a year chance to explore exhibitions in a unique atmosphere, often making use of a free entry and specially prepared artistic and educational programs.

An Industrial Night Full of Excitement

Philipine de Girard Linen Museum in Żyrardów has been proudly participating in this cultural event for years, inviting visitors into the raw, post-industrial interiors of the former factory. After dusk our halls come to life in a completely different way, providing its guests with an out of this world experience that connects the history of the textiles industry with the contemporary craft.

Collaboration with Stowarzyszenie Polskiego Patchworku

Since 2021 a consistent and an incredibly colourful element of the Night of Museums in our establishment is the collaboration with Stowarzyszenie Polskiego Patchworku. Thanks to this initiative the event has attained great prestige hosting nationwide and international exhibitions of one of a kind crafts made from linen and other fabrics.

As part of the collaboration, the Night of Museums has taken form of weekend patchwork fairs, during which tourists are able to:

  • admire exhibitions of elaborate quilts
  • take part in creative workshops and sewing machine courses
  • visit commercial booths with unique handicrafts and textile accessories

History Live: The Jacquard and Tour Guides

For tradition enthusiasts we have prepared must-see parts of the experience. During the Night of Museums touring with a guide is free of charge, and the guide shall unveil the mysteries of Żyrardów’s factory before the visitors. A sewing display on an antique jacquard loom invokes the most awe in the spectators, as they watch with their own eyes how colourful linen fabrics come to life.
